Abstract

The present study aims to present a brief overview of contemporary Brazilian production primarily addressed to pre-reading children. It aims to investigate the specificities of the works addressed to the readers who are at the beginning of their formation process, as well as to present some of the most significant authors and books of Brazilian children’s literature. In addition, it’s discussed the importance of the mediator in the process of allowing the meeting between very young readers with literary books, a decisive encounter in the process of very young reader formation. The discussions undertaken in this study are based on the reflections of Colomer (2002), Reyes (2010) and Zilberman (2003), and point to a literature marked by plurality and aesthetic quality, which has much to contribute to the formation of the children.
