Impacts of information and communication technology on people management processes: a multiple case study in the hotel sector

Objective of the study: Investigate the impacts of the use of Information and Communication Technology on people management processes in the hotel sector.
Methodology / approach: It was developed a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research. Ten hotels were investigated in order to identify the insertion of technological applications in the following processes: recruitment and selection, training and development, performance evaluation and remuneration and reward for employees. Interviews were conducted with managers in each hotel. The data were analyzed using the content analysis method and with the aid of NVivo software.
Originality / Relevance: Fills a gap characterized by the few studies on the use of e-HR in Brazilian hotels, where technology and people management are two areas that generate value and organizational competitiveness.
Main results: Most hotels had a poorly structured people management in technological terms, dependent on other areas and with traditional processes. Although there are technological impacts, these are at an early stage and far from comprehensive strategic planning. There is greater technological effort in some people management activities, while in others, this aspect is still deficient.
Theoretical / Methodological Contributions: For the hotels under study to evolve their people management processes through information and communication technology, only occasional changes are not enough; there is a need for a process of broader transformations, which involves cultural and value aspects of the organization's members.
