The winter of our discontent

Abstract

This paper, based on demographic medical discourse, intends to examine the particular perception of some natural landscape aspects such as weather and meteorological conditions, considering them as São Paulo's cultural representation, in the early twentieth century. Thus it analyses how a Brazilian man of Sciences constructs his idea of how the environment's healthiness and unhealthiness interfere in the development process of the ‘civilization’ in a tropical country
