Journalism and Literature: Sketches by Boz, the first Charles Dickens’s work

Sketches by Boz is the first Charles Dickens’s work and for some critics, still now, is classified as a journalistic text together other Dickens’s works that were indicated to newspaper. The explanation consists in the fact that it was put under the shadow of the later Dickens’s works. But is important remember that was in Sketches by Boz that Dickens began all fictional characteristics present in all his work. Moreover, it points the confluence between the journalistic and literary practice, and in none of his novels London is so present as in it. The article presented has as objective shows that this work, as some also critics are coming pointing, is a whole of narratives where are mixed the journalistic text, the chronicle and the short story, confirming in this way that Sketches by Boz is also a fictional work.
