Companies must assess the environmental impacts generated by their industrial production processes and develop green dynamic capabilities (GDC) through technological eco-innovations to reduce pollution and the extraction of natural resources. This study aimed to analyze how dynamic capabilities in research and development (R&D) of cosmetic eco-innovations are developed from biomimetics. The theoretical lens of GDC and eco-innovations were applied. The chosen method was an in-depth case study in the cosmetics industry in the city of Curitiba-PR. The results indicated that GDC were developed from six stages of Green R&D: ideation, research, prototyping, testing, adaptations, and product certification and registration. In the R&D stages, the importance of knowledge sharing between cross-functional teams was observed, which allowed the company to analyze more quickly the need for changes in products and visualize market opportunities, in addition to allowing greater efficiency in the production process. The results also indicate that inspiration from nature allowed the development of eco-innovative products, such as repellents, exfoliants, and sunscreens. It is concluded that biomimetics is an emerging methodology for the development of GDC, and through it, it is possible to generate an eco-innovative differential in companies, which can result in a competitive advantage and brand reputation.
