This paper present an accompanying and controlling proposal for port operations in the northern region of Brazil, focusing in Manaus. At first a general view of ports and its configuring operations are shown, emphasising the cargos movimentation and necessary resources for the best functioning and client attendance, in the estimated time. For methodology, the use of quality tools was adopted to create a solid basis for study. A review of literature and bibliographic research was used. Data processing was performed using the data envelopment analysis method, thus helping to optimize the port of Manaus, in order to reduce logistical costs, improving the level of service during the transactions and avoiding the saturation or idleness of the port. It was verified through the DEA that the facilities in the port of Manaus have idle facilities, and may have been a result of negligence in the planning of the port. It is expected that there will be infrastructure improvements to enable full use.
