Abstract

Introduction: The Chamomilla recutita (L.) Rauschert is popularly known as chamomile. Chamomile essential oil presents calmative, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and cicatrizant effects. Objective: In this study, the cutaneous cicatrizant index of the fluid extract of chamomile in semi-solid formulations was macroscopically evaluated in rats. Methods: Wistar male rats (n=5 per group) were submitted to cutaneous incision on the back, and daily treated with gel or cream containing fluid extract of chamomile, only gel or cream (controls). The lesions were macroscopically analysed and measured. The cicatrizant index was determined, and the results were expressed as media and standard deviation followed by ANOVA test. Results: It was verified that the cicatrizant action of chamomile gel was higher than cream mainly in the initial phase of the treatment. Conclusion: This study open new perspectives for the expansion of chamomile gel uses and indication as an efficient way of tissue reconstitution, especially in non-extensive and deep lesions.
