Prevalence of self-medication in undergraduate of physical therapy from an institution in Teresina

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the prevalence of self-medication among students of physiotherapy in a private college. METHOD: Data were obtained through questionnaires with closed and open questions. RESULTS: There were 177 students of both sexes, aged between 20 and 49 years. The prevalence of self-medication among the students studied was 46.87%. The main reasons cited for self-medication were headaches (50.62%), menstrual pain (19.92%) and musculoskeletal pain (11.62%). The types of drugs mentioned, the most commonly used were analgesics (76,55%) and antibiotics (9.29%). CONCLUSIONS: Self-medication is common among students attending courses in the area of health, which may be evidenced in the present article, where almost half of the students referred perform this practice.Downloads
