Characterization of the risk factors and of the drug therapy of patients that had suffered from stroke in physical therapy treatment

OBJECTIVES: The aim in this study was to characterize the risk factors and the drug therapy of patients who suffered from stroke and were in physiotherapy treatment. METHOD: This study retrospective, cross-sectional and quantitative was conducted in the city of Maceió (Alagoas State, Brazil), in the Clinical School of Physiotherapy Doctor Rodrigo Ramalho, through data collection from 135 medical records of patients affected by stroke, covering personal aspects, data related to the pathological state and to treatment. RESULTS: We found that the majority of patients consisted of males with a mean age of 60,23±12,61 years and with low level of education. It was found that most individuals had hypertension, diabetes mellitus, history of alcoholism and or smoking, and furthermore, they made use of antihypertensive drugs, NSAIDs and or oral hypoglycemic agents. CONCLUSIONS: Therefore, for most participants in this study, the drug therapy is configured as a preventive support against recurrence of the disease.Downloads
