Abstract

Introduction: The hipodermoclysis consists of administering fluids subcutaneously, currently recommended in clinical practice in the elderly, prolonged therapy and palliative care. Objective: To evaluate the knowledge of nurses in the inpatient unit in relation to hipodermoclysis. Methodology: We conducted a descriptive, exploratory and quantitative approach. Results: We observed that 29% of the nurses had superficially knowledge about the hipodermoclysis technique, and 71% ignored completely this method. All research subjects received no guidance on nursing care, in this practice, from the institution where they work, and they reported do not use hipodermoclysis in the unit surveyed. Conclusion: The predominant lack of knowledge about hipodermoclysis among nurses of inpatient unit, make it necessary to approach the subject in the hospital and academia, so that proposals be introduced, seeking to promote, enhance and improve knowledge of these professionals on this technique, and, therefore, provide a better nursing care to patients.
