The project management is a competitive ability of organizations to be the projects means organizations promote innovation. When it comes to innovation, management must be prepared to deal with the uncertainties that are associated with projects with this innovative bias. There are some methods that support project managers in identifying issues that may impact the implementation of the project, like the diamond model. This model identifies innovation as one of the dimensions of risks that must be effectively managed to minimize the impact on project performance. In projects with strong predominance aspect of innovation, a key challenge is to propose innovative and feasible solutions. One technique that has been widely adopted to leverage creativity in the innovation process is the Design Thinking. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to evaluate through the analysis of an innovation project and its research in the literature on the subject, the effectiveness of the design in the process of generating new ideas. The conclusion was that the front of the Design Thinking features such as consider the context, culture and human aspects in the search for solutions, the technique was effective to promote innovation required by the project. However, it is understood that the present study has the limitation of having only investigated a project, which makes it impossible to generalize the results.
