Given the number of innovations and the fast technological development, most products have been having their life cycle reduced, thereby increasing the amount of consumer goods waste to be absorbed by nature. The National Policy on Solid Waste (NPSW) of Brazil aims to accomplish integrated management and the management of solid waste so as to assign environmentally correct destinations to consumer waste of goods. In this context, this research aims to analyze the current situation of the management of household solid waste in the city of Florianópolis. The study was conducted at the company's Companhia Melhoramentos da Capital (COMCAP), and it is characterized as being a descriptive and case study. Primary data were collected through interviews. Interviews were conducted with four representatives of the company and a representative of civil society. Based on the data obtained, it was found that, despite serving over 90% of the population, it is not very efficient, since the recycling rate is low. In addition, there are few options for treatment and disposal of waste and the operational structure, according to the theoretical framework adopted, is flawed.Downloads
