Abstract

The textile industry has played an important role in the growth of the global economy. In order to remain competitive in this scenario, companies have sought to reduce costs, in particular transport costs. Deciding cargo sizes to be allocated to different carriers by a textile sector company in Santa Catarina is the problem addressed in this paper. The Simplex method is applied to obtain the optimal cost solution for distributing the company’s products for the domestic market. The findings show that transport cost reductions of approximately 30% can be achieved as the result of changes in cargo sizes assigned to each carrier.
