Nurses are one of the classes of workers highlighted in relation to the intense labor demands during the COVID-19 pandemic. The objective of this research was to identify the mental workload of a group of nurses working in the care of patients with COVID-19 during the pandemic. A questionnaire was applied through the NASA-TLX method in order to identify the characteristics of the research participants. Twenty professionals were interviewed, working both in the public and private health network. The results indicated high levels of mental workload, with emphasis on the dimensions of mental demand and frustration. Differences in the results were identified in relation to age, time of action in the fight against COVID-19, and sex of professionals. Finally, greater attention and changes in nurses' work during and after the pandemic are recommended, as there can be serious consequences due to the current workload configuration.
